A renowned philatelist, philately owes him almost everything, even its name. Arthur Maury was born in 1844 in Paris. His father opened a glove shop, and Arthur Maury used a corner of the window to sell stamps, thus becoming, at the age of seventeen, one of the world's first stamp dealers. In September 1891, he moved to a two-story building at 6 Boulevard Montmartre, where he remained until his death at the age of sixty-three on December 1, 1907. A head of Mercury, a relic of the former Maury establishment, still adorns the building's facade. Arthur Maury enjoyed such renown that, towards the end of his life, he was part of the commission that selected new postage stamps. He published works devoted to philately. Today Arthur Maury has also specialized in numismatics and has become an essential brand and a guarantee of quality for collectors.
